The Recycled Nativity

Our church garden has been blessed this Christmastide by a nativity scene made of recycled materials. The characters were all designed and built using empty crisp packets which so often litter our streets. On this occasion they were ironed together to produce the wonderful costumes worn by the Mary and Joseph characters.

The stable was made in outline using bamboo canes cut from a local garden. The beautiful star could be seen from some distance. Above Joseph there is an angel. During the Trinity Carol service Joycey mentioned to the children that the angel could be seen from inside the church, as though it was peeping in at them as they sang.

The scene has attracted great interest, not only from church visitors, but from the many passers-by who stopped to look at it.

Our thanks go to Paula who was inspired to design and build the scene , which has inspired so many.
