Inclusion

Whoever you are, whatever your story – you are welcome here.
At Leatherhead Methodist Church (LMC), we describe ourselves as an inclusive church. But what does being an inclusive church really mean?
For us at LMC, being an inclusive church means that we are a Christian community that is continually seeking to become more inclusive, to welcoming everyone regardless of human diversity and difference – including welcoming you.
- We welcome you, whatever your age – whether you’re an excited toddler, are over 60 but not yet grown up, or are a teenager who is growing up too fast.
- We welcome you whatever your gender or sexuality. We welcome you if you’re not sure, or if you don’t like to conform to labels.
- We welcome you whatever your ethnicity or nationality, or if you got lost in Surrey and wound up here by mistake.
- We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted or have just got out of prison. We welcome you if you’re full of joy or are struggling with life.
- We welcome you whether you are a lifelong Christian disciple or haven’t been to church since Christmas ten years ago. We welcome you if you are doubting or ‘just browsing’, or don’t like ‘organised religion’, or are wanting to find out more about Christian faith.
- We welcome you whatever your shoe size, and whether or not you believe pineapple belongs on a pizza. We welcome you whether you can sing like Pavarotti or just growl quietly to yourself. You’re welcome whether you’ve just woken up, or are still asleep.
- We welcome keep-fit mums, football dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters. We welcome those who are inked, pierced, both, or neither. We offer a welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work, or can’t spell,
- We welcome you if you could use a prayer right now, or had religion shoved down your throat as kids, or are here because granny is visiting and wanted you to come to church.
- We are a community of Christian disciples committed to fostering inclusivity and celebrating the diversity of all God’s people. We believe that each person is uniquely valued and loved by God, and we are dedicated to learning and growing as individuals and as a community to better reflect this in all we do.
- Our aim is for everyone to feel welcomed and included. However, we recognize that as humans, we sometimes fall short. If there are ways we could improve or if you’ve experienced exclusion, we encourage you to reach out and share your thoughts. We are eager to listen, learn, and grow together.
- We welcome you!
