Defibrillator

A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. This high energy shock is called defibrillation, and it’s an essential part in trying to save the life of someone who’s in cardiac arrest.

We have been able to place a defibrillator on the outside wall of our church, which will make it available to anyone locally who needs it in an emergency. The cabinet is locked for security, and to keep the device charged and protected from the weather.

In the event of an emergency it is necessary to phone the emergency number 999. A qualified person will then identify whether defibrillation is appropriate, and if so provide the security code to open the cabinet and access the defibrillator.

We were able to purchase this with a grant from Surrey County Council, and a number of other gifts have enabled us to install it in a prominent position.

The video below shows how the defibrillator can be used in an emergency.
